We know you likely have a ton of questions when it comes to selecting someone to take care of your furry and feathered friends. And we want to be sure to answer all your questions so you can go away with less worry and feel good about how your pets are being cared for.
Below you will find a list of the questions most frequently asked. But feel free to reach out to discuss any other questions you have!
I understand life changes and generally I do not charge a cancellation fee. I just ask that you let me know your change of plans as soon as possible. I’m sure you understand that I do; however, reserve the right to request a cancellation fee from someone that frequently cancels.
Great question, especially for new pet owners or new residents of Botetout and Roanoke County!
As you can image in my line of work, I am familiar with a lot of Veterinarians in the area. While I don’t provide endorsements, I can share the below list of Vets.
Selecting the best Vet for your pets is really a personal decision based on type of pets you have (breed, size, etc), your location, and which professional makes a connection with you and your pets.
Below are some helpful resources & checklists of what to look for in a Vet. Note that each will open in a new window.
- AAHA Accreditation checklist when choosing a Vet
- Pets WebMD checklist
- American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)
Below are several Vets in Botetout, Roanoke, and surrounding areas. They have a variety of services and are quite good at what they do. Note that each will open in a new window.
Vacation or travel does not always make for the best phone coverage. Whether it is the bad reception in the mountains, the screaming from the roller coaster, your phone being buried in the sand, or that lecture you put your phone on silent for, you aren’t always going to hear it ring. If something should happen and I can’t reach you, I need the name and number of a person you would trust to make decisions for your pets. Should there ever be a health emergency while you are away, I will call you first, your vet second, and your local contact third.
A tip is never expected for my services. I feel that once I have quoted you a price, that is the agreed upon amount and you do not need to pay any additional monies.
Absolutely! Sometimes the unexpected happens. And it’s not often at a convenient time either. I am always happy to do my best to work with last minute appointments. In fact some of my clients keep me on standby for those times when the unexpected happens and they need to go out of town unexpectedly.
Great question! I do post to various social media sites including Facebook. Many pet owners tell me they enjoy seeing posts of their pets on my social media sites.
While social media is indeed awesome, I’m mindful of security and privacy concerns and always adhere to the following guidelines when posting: 1) I will never post your name, address, or identifying photos of your home; 2) I will not tag you in posts to protect your privacy, but you are always welcome to tag yourself in your pets posts; and 3) I will never post your pet while you are away. Of course, if you would rather I not post your pet on social media, simply let me know.
No worries if you are running a bit later than planned. Let me know what you new return date is and I will continue caring for your pet until you return home.
I can administer medication to your pets as needed. At the initial consultation I’ll ask that you show me what your pet needs and any special methods you use for giving medication. It’s also important to keep the medication in its original bottle so if we have questions, we can review the label, or contact your vet.
Some of our furry and feathered friends come with some physical disabilities. But no worries. I can take care of these guys too. During the initial consultation I’ll spend extra time making sure we cover all aspects of your pets’ needs, physical limitations, and any special accommodations necessary.
Areas I serve – Daleville, Fincastle, Troutville, Blue Ridge, and the Botetourt side of Roanoke including Hollins. I can travel to other areas, but pricing may vary.
I take reservations as far in advance as you would like! And do recommend making reservations as soon as you can.
Fur and Feathers Pet Sitting is a small, boutique pet sitting service offering customized care plans with high levels of service. As such, schedules fill up pretty fast, especially around the Holidays and popular weekends.
Nope! I love all animals and am always happy to meet all types of new friends! The only reason an animal would be turn down is if it would be considered unsafe for a caregiver to be around or near the animal.
Many people in some of the rural areas of Virginia such as Boteourt, Troutville, Daleville, Fincastle and such have small farms. Some include only chickens; while others include goats or a few cows.
It’s very difficult to find someone to care for small farm animals while you are away. Fur and Feathers Pet Sitting can take care of your indoor pets and your small farm animals.
Small farm care will typically include feeding, watering, stall or pen clean out, and egg or milk collection.
Making sure your pets are safe and secure during transport is very important to me. It’s not only safer for the animals, but easier and safer for me to drive! All animals are either crated or double leashed at all times.
If your precious pets need a basic bath, I can definitely help. However, the bath services I provide don’t come anywhere close to the magic of a professional groomer. So if Fido needs a basic bath or Pet Transport Services to the magic, professional groomer of your choice, reach out.
I’d generally prefer to feed your pet’s current food since most animals don’t react well to a sudden diet change. You can either provide the food or I’m happy to pick it up if you have pre-ordered it. I do keep treats on hand and give them out as needed.
Custom quotes will be provided for services as needed. Payment is due on or before the day services start.
I can accept check, cash, and Venmo. Sorry, but I do not accept traditional credit cards at this time.
At Fur and Feathers Pet Sitting, it’s a pretty long day. But I love taking care of all the animals, so time does go by quickly. Generally, I start around 6 a.m. and end my last visit around 9:30 p.m. If different hours are needed for your pets, we can review their needs during our initial meeting.
